Sun
I was there last year. The thousands of red Tibetan building built on hills are awesome at Seda, Sichuan province. Went to see sky burial nearby the place also. A type of funeral ritual for Tibetan people where death body will be eaten by a big type of eagle. lovehandle

Guest Betawi
Just had an amazing trip in Tibet. Contrary to the news, tibet was really serene. The people did the daily chores normally. I found lots of them prostrating near the holy sites, while the other one chanting sutra and rolled the praying wheel. As the gay scene, i was quite shocked to find jackd worked. Lots of chinese looked for hooking up. Manage to hook up with 8 chinese men and 6 tibetan locals. The tibetans i encountered in jackd were more secluded, and they didnt show any photos in the apps, but it turned out they looked handsome when i met them face to face. I spoke with the tibetans and found out that it was quite difficult for tibetans to go to another province, and almost impossible to obtain passport. One of my tibetan hook up buddy, bot, age about 40 years, but really fit and looked 30s, said that to obtain passport tibetans need money and connection. And they are also being watched and controlled by the authority. The food were not really appetizing especially the yak soup. But another tibetans hook up buddy take me to a local restaurant near jokhang temple which provides combined food of traditional tibet recipes and sichuan recipes. Will be back next year for kora at mt. Kailash.
yhtang
Thank you for this report. I have always wondered about life in Tibet. Now I have a better idea. Nothing beats going there personally to have a look around.
Sun
Nowadays, in order to travel to Tibet, foreigners must obtain Tibet's visa one month in advanced before going to the sacred place. This is different from many years ago where visa can be obtained within 2-3 days from local tour agents in China. During my trip to China recently, I heard from the locals saying that Potala Palace will be revamped soon. The renovation of the huge palace may take a few years to complete probably 4-5 years. By the time the task completed, we will be 4-5 years older Visiting Tibet without going to Potala Palace is meaningless as it is UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage building and a sacred temple to Tibetan people. For foreigner, you will need a Tibet Permit which can only be applied by a travel agency, hence having to go with travel agency. For sgporeans, it is now 30 days Visa free. Based on my experience, they are not super strict on travelling together. One of my tour mate was not well, so stayed back in hotel while the rest proceed with the tour for the day.... Also, we are free to walk around ourselves in the evening after the tour programme, but I guess travelling from city to city, need to travel as a whole (where the police will check the permit)

I took the train from Xining into Lhasa. I would say go for it if you have the time. beautiful scenery along the way! ollie_hollie

China Polices check everyone in the street. Most important for us is to bring our Singapore passport. When the China polices see our passport, they welcome us most of the time...and no questioning and see through our passport in detail. It is my life experience recently. ollie_hollie 1 Quote Life is short! Don't wait for the last minute to do what you like to do! Just do it! I was entering from Xining, it was an 18-hour journey, saved 10 hours compared to departure from Chengdu Xining is the last stop for all the trains to Lhasa, so it has more choices of the time departure, you can explore Xining first before departure to Lhasa On the way back, I took Flight Lhasa to Chengdu, and explore Chengdu

dexter9898
In 2019, I flew to Chengdu and took a domestic flight to Xining. Stayed 2 nights and did a day tour so that I can get used to the high altitude but didn't really work (lucky I brought Diamox from SG). From Xining took the train to Lhasa. Local tour guide picked us up and off we go. Return trip - flew to Chengdu (gay capital of China) then explore the city before flying back to Sg. PS: Get a doctor prescription for Diamox and you can purchase it at any guardian pharmacy. Take half a pill day and night a before reaching Lhasa and continue until you leave Lhasa. alx
But if the train from Chengdu to Lhasa takes over 34 hours - that would help to acclimatise right? Also staying in St Regis where they have plenty of oxygen - that should also help upon arrival in Lhasa for the first few days?

But then it really depends on your body as not everyone will be affected by high altitude sickness . Read this article. https://www.yowangdu.com/tibet-travel/tibet-train.html. If you really want to take the train from Chengdu then maybe prepare some acetazolamide as you will not able to get this medication in Tibet. When High altitude sickness hits, you will feel like having a migraine as your brain is starting to swell. 🫠
