sianned
Woah....the S5IS is so cheap in japan? You are looking at ultra long zoom prosumer cameras...the cameras in this range includes the 2 you are looking at, Fuji's S8100fd, Panasonic's FZ18 and Sony's H9, Olympus's older 560UZ. Of these cameras, the 570UZ has the longest optical zoom at 20X. The Sony is 15 X and the S5IS has the shortest optical zoom at 12X with the remaining cameras at 18X. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/fujifilms8000fd/page12.aspThe link above shows a comparison of the fuji s8100fd, olympus 560uz and the panasonic fz18. The downside of having a long zoom on a small sensor with a high resolution is that there is going to be considerably more noise or loss of details due to noise reduction being applied, especially at the higher ISO settings. This should be taken into consideration. In addition, the type of memory card used is a factor in the cost and the cost of spare / additional batteries also should be considered as these long zoom cameras use up power more readily. Personally, owning a S3IS, I appreciate the swivel LCD from Canon which makes taking photos of objects from awkward angles easier however, the image and zoom specifications are not the best compared to the others. Olympus has its merits in featuring the longest zoom however, it still uses only xD cards which are more expensive. Fuji's CCD technology is superior to the rest when it comes to high ISO photography, however, the S8100fd does not use the SuperCCD made by Fuji, making it as weak as the others if not for its better noise reduction algorithm. Panasonic's camera produces one of the more eye pleasing results in the 18X zoom range but higher ISO pictures show noise and heavy noise reduction techniques which causes a loss of details. Sony's performance is also not as good as the rest and uses the more expensive memory stick. I guess you have to try some of them to decide whether you are comfortable as the interface of the camera also should be a factor as to how intuitive and useful it is (eg. how many buttons you need to press before you get to a certain function like macro etc.)
Andy@Tokyo
Yeah, me thinks cam is cheap in japan too. some china people would buy a dozen to bring back and sell..I like the Canon 'swivel LCD' too. but S5IS also dont have... so i am considering to get other brands.Btw, sianned i dont know if it is true but i saw somewhere that SP570UZ can accommodate mircoSD cards too, i assumed with adpator card.Being an Anti-SOny-cameras person, i didnt even consider Sony. but i guess, i would take a look when i am at the shops. Also,I read the reviews OB suggested.. seems like the zoom for the Olymus SP570UZ is not that smooth..Zooming isn't really as smooth/fine as the canon pro1 (electronically link zoom) or the S-series cams but seems quieter this time round. They had quite a heated argument regarding that (if u read all the threads).I dont know those technical terms.. but i did experienced jerky zooming with olymus cam before.. anyway, would test it when i see it at the electronics shop. Lungker
Andy, I am using the Panasonic FZ18 for all my travelling pics.I am an idiot where camera features are concerned. Before I bought the camera, I read some basic reviews on chunky (I like evrything chunky, especially chunky men with thick fingers) cameras that has long zoom and I found out that the FZ18 was quite well recommended. It cost about $800 when I bought it last year.Since I know nuts what is a good picture (I usually uploaded everything I took), you can check out the results on my picasa album page. Maybe if it is real bad, Panasonic will bribe me to remove my album. Sianned, you pro man. Want to conduct a class for camera idiots like me? Maybe, a one hour briefing, then maybe we can all act like tourists and go together take some pics at say the Shaolin Temple at Toa Payoh? It will be nice if some experts here can help us all take better pictures. Quote Please play safely! Use a condom if you are having anal sex. sianned
Lungker: No lah, I'm not expert....I just summed up most of the reviews and article results and add a bit of personal experience with some of the brands. I used to own a fuji then now a canon. I think my next camera might be a fuji again (most probably f100fd) as their superCCD really produces better results than most of the competition. And after using the S3IS, I am a bit sian of the big camera size. Does not make me want to bring it out to take pictures very often. The video quality is good though on the S3IS.If you are not looking for an ultra zoom, I would recommend the fuji f50fd. Still top of its class with regards to low light performance. I like the fact that it allows flash to be used to lit the object in front without turning the background black. Also you can do away with flash in certain instances which is nice especially for places where the ambient lighting gives the mood. Andy: The S5IS's LCD is still the swivel type leh. In fact its bigger than the S3IS's one. Coupled with the hotshoe that you can attach an external flash, its a more capable system I guess. TopChinese
I like the Canon better because of the ultra sweet "SuperFine" setting for the photos. The picture quality from Canon have always been better. I don't like Olympus because I had experienced slow operations with a previous model. All the guys already shot their loads by the time the Olympus completes its starts up.
Andy@Tokyo
>Lungker u are rich... the cam, maybe after depreciation, costs 34,800yen abt 400 sing dollars. Nevertheless, i find the cam quite kool too!>Sianned... i didnt know S5IS LCD can also swivel :oops:But, i am thinking of getting a small one too. small ones are better for capturing guys while they shoot :D They might not even notice that they are being photographed and this produces pics with 100% natural/innocent look when they cum Sianned, prices for those fuji cams are here http://kakaku.com/itemlist/I0050005019N101/ Think they would be cheaper in japan too. TC, thanks for the olympus feedback. hahaSummary---------------Big Cams for Outdoor sexSmall ones for quick sauna shots Edited April 3, 2008 by Andy@Tokyo

Nevertheless, i find the cam quite kool too!Oh fxxk...ok buy one for me at $400 then I'll have two so each one costs me $600. Don't laugh at me. I am not kidding. Maybe I am. Wow, did not know cameras are so cheap there. But are the manuals/instructions in English?I bought a really nice and big MP4 "Jay Chou in a cowboy outfit" player in China and brought it back to realise all the manuals are in Chinese. It is still sitting in my luggage gathering dust longing for a new owner with thick thick fingers that can read Mandarin. And no, the sales person wasn't a man. She was a pretty young woman who wasn't having much business that day and I took pity on her. I am such an idiot. Quote Please play safely! Use a condom if you are having anal sex. like wind
Likewind... SLR cams too expensive...and cant capture videos, if i am not wrong. u really into photography? Some lens cost as much as the cam itself..Dear Andy,Yes. I'm gettting more and more into photography, and my 2.5 years old canon A530 can't satisfy me now... So, if I was to buy a new one, I may as well buy a good one with low noise and good zooming. I don't mind the cam-recording feature as I have a cam-recorder Noise in photo taking is a big turn down.Feel like kite, flying in the wind
GachiMuchi
My partner had recently upgraded from his Nikon D200 to D300 that has a self cleaning feature and the noise is well maintain even when he took the pic at ASA800 - 1000.Hardware Mag's April 2008 edition has a DSLR camera shoot out that award to Olympus E-3 (RRP S$ 2,699 Body) for good performance and Sony Alpha350 (RRP $1,199 Body) for value for money.Panasonic's Lumix DMC-FX36 (RRP $599) and Nikon D60 (RRP $1,188) both score a HWM Gold award in April 2008 issue. oralb
on the subject of camera, anyone has some suggestions of a more consumer camera, here're my requirement- Swivel LCD, for self pics- more compact- good night shot- best if with image stablizerI checked out Andy 2 recommendation, however both are more prosumer (professional consumer) which is overkill for me, also the size isnt easy to carry around during holiday... TopChinese
I am sure TC IS NOT speaking from personal experience. Just kidding.Sigh, unfortunately.....OralB, I suggest you look at the Canons. They have good night settings and even the entry level Powershot models (A370IS eg) come with image stabilisation. Great for those frantic orgy shots. The face detection technology can be adapted to focus on cockheads. No swivel LCDs tho, they make the camera too bulky. Prices for entry prosumer Canons start from $350. Edited April 7, 2008 by TopChinese
oralb
tks TC, tried out canon before and so far quite satisfied by that.Wanting to get a swivel lcd as it helps to get that self pic, esp when traveling along. and i got colleagues who love to take self group pic whenever we travel.Any suggestions?
