Experts told The New Paper that mental health issues can have a direct impact on physical health, so psychiatric patients are at higher risk of having physical illnesses.

I take an effort here to make my personal point clear:

Singapore naturally is too small for any open shores. And on a different note: I don't think the NS men defend shorelines here but more the Maritime Police.

2. Nobody ever wrote or voted here to let anybody unlimited into Singapore.

Yes, Singapore might be attractive to many people, due to availability of jobs and other factors, but nobody here, myself included, supports a policy to just allow anyone into Singapore.

Immigration is not easy to Singapore, the level of illegal workers is on a very low level here. Foreigners can only live in Singapore if they have a job (unless some joining dependants).

The government is in a position to control the amount of foreigners working and living in Singapore.

3. In fact, I personally never understand why the Government has approved so many Mainland Chinese as Permanent Residents at such fast speed and scale. In my personal view it would have been better to let them understand the local culture and integrate into society first. But, I think there was an old man who feared that the Chinese majority in Singapore would be shrinking too fast, which lead to this policy. (This here shall not be understood as PRC bashing). Eventually another reason has been that the old man feared the population would shrink too fast in Singapore and Singapore would not stay competitive against other nations. You don't do good policies if you live in fear.

4. Singapore at near to full employment, I don't see very any foreign worker or employee is taking away any job of a Singaporean. Yes, there might be industrial restructurings and in some sectors there are lay offs but most Singaporeans find a new job quite easily. Yes, the government could do more to elevate Singaporeans from low skill sectors in more high skilled jobs, but still - we are aware not everybody is fit to work in certain better paid sectors due to lack of intelligence, education or motivation. It is a myth that most Singaporeans who are laid off will work in freelance positions or in the gig industry, taxi / grab drivers. Sure some Singaporeans might not always find easily a follow up job, but the factors might be lack of motivation or lack/ disinterest to get upskilled in new positions, being aware that older workers need time to adapt or face a difficulty to accept workplace changes.

5. Blaming the foreigners in Singapore for working in jobs which Singaporeans shy away from is extremely unfair. Grow up and reach out, talk to some Singaporean employers and you will understand the background why many foreigners are working in certain sectors of the economy (Filipinos in Services, retail, hospitality or healthcare).

I don't think that any Foreigner in Singapore is taking away any job of any Singaporean. This is a big myth ( and maybe easily said unreflectedly from some locals who are not willing to do a hard job).

Every Foreigner in Singapore contributes that the economy is running smoothly. Any excess in foreigners is quickly removed, they will forced to return to their home countries for example if the economy is declining, service jobs will be less, or if less construction, then there will be fewer such workers. This has been seen in construction and marine when the economy declined rapidly during some of the past crisis.

You neglect that any growth in the economy automatically leads to growth in Employment. From the economic perspective Singapore would actually need more Foreigners to work here to complement a worker crunch. there aren;t sufficient Singaporeans to do all such jobs.  I have nothing against the fact if more Singaporeans will then take up such jobs.
